In My Own Backyard - December, 2006
In the immortal words of Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, "If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own back yard."
The following images are indeed, from my own backyard. They were all taken in Loudoun County, Virginia. I visited several abandonments -- two farms and one exceedingly creepy abandoned house in, DIG THIS, Herndon, VA. Tip o' the lens to my good pal Ben A., as he told me about the Herndon, uh, "open house."
The farms were located by looking at aerial photos of Loudoun county, courtesy of Yahoo maps. I can spot a fab abandonment a mile away.
Or in this case about a 1/2 mile UP.
Swing sets? Kiddie pools? Koi ponds? I think not.
My particular backyard is a junkyard; filled with the remnants of lives, loss, and in my case, love of what was.
